Is anyone going to the JTR at Tyrone farm on the 23 of Aug? Heidi and I are planning to go. We have been riding daily to get the horses in some kind of shape. We were lazy about riding all summer with the heat and bugs but now the weather is ideal and no bugs. This is unusual in Aug. but who's complaining? Hope to see some of you there.........Jane

Well we went to the ride. Heidi's mare loaded like a dream as did Ace. The weather was perfect and the trails were great. Unfortunately Brownie was just too much with all the other horses so we cut the ride short and brought the horses home. She has to do a lot more work with that mare to keep her calm in company. Ace and I took a 5th on the obstacles which we did not do very well as his attention was on Brownie instead of me. We'll do better next time.

Hi Suzie, Carol and Cathy went and won 1st and 3rd and Carol won the year end award in her division. Did you get to go? I have to finish the brakes on the truck before I can go anywhere.

I went but I only did the obstacles and left, I didn't go on the trail ride. I had to go to a gymkhana at 12:00. Tuffy can not ride that long and still be competetive at gymkhana.

How did you do in the gymkhana? Is that one of a series? Heidi and I rode around here. We are trying to get the horses ready to ride in some Fall rides. Heidi's mare gets really wired when she gets in company. She is doing a lot of ground work and ring work before we trail ride and Brownie is getting much better.

Hey Jane, I did great at the gymkhana I was champion of the day with 4 first places. The footing was a little soggy due to all the rain but the weather held out. This was the first in the Fall Finale series at Quarter H farm. Great to hear Brownie is making improvements, I know personally how frustrating it can be when your horse only acts up when you go somewhere and get around other horses. It is very difficult to work on that since the problem does not exist at home. Good luck, maybe we sill see you riding at the Turkey Trot.

I just got my mail and in it was a ribbon from the Tyrone Ride. Tuffy and I were 5th for our division. I was very pleased that we did so well, I just went to their web site to see the end of year results and found out that there were 24 riders in my division at the last ride. I see that we ended up finishing 4th for the season. Tommy did good for his division on Carmello too. He finished 4th for the season. He really does a nice job with her and she has come a long way in the trail riding department.

Congratulations on the 1st places in the gymkhana. You and Tuffy are getting better and better. Terrific on the Tyrone ride. You placed well with all those riders there. Tommy did well on Carmello as well. Well done for both of you. I'm hoping to get Ace up to the Turkey trot this year. We have been riding at least every other day and he seems to be in good shape. I bought him boots and I'm trying to break them in slowly. He walks like a high stepper when I first put them on but smooths out eventually. They keep him comfortable on the gravel. We are going to Dennis Reis this week end are you?

Thanks Jane, Tuffy and I have been doing a lot of work this season. I have seen that walk with the boots on, I put a pair Janeen loaned me on tuffy once when we first got him so he would not be ouchy on the gravel. He looked like a cat with tin foil on its feet. Eventually he realized the gravel was not hurting his feet and he rode normal but it was very funny indeed. I cannot make it to Dennis Reis this weekend we have a lot of stuff going on at the house, getting ready for winter and such. I have to put up some more new fence and move some rocks and branches. (I have been going to quite a few shows and have been putting this off, but eventually it has to get done). I hope you have a good time it should be a lot of fun.

Dennis Reis was terrific as usual. He started a two and a half year old under saddle. The owner is in his program so the horse had had considerable ground work. He did minimal work in the round pen and turned the filly loose in the big arena and then mounted her in the round pen and walked, trotted and cantered both ways and finished. Then he worked with "dressage horse" that was bracey and stiff and bucked and couldn't even be led. Someone sold that girl a line of baloney. Anyway Dennis had him on the bit and moving collected by the end of the session. It was inspiring. Heidi and I came home and practiced on Brownie and Ace with renewed interested.
