SCENARIO # 1
Have you ever had a blister? Have you ever popped it, only to be looking for the band- aid box to cover up the raw skin that was just exposed till the new skin grows out because it stings every time you do anything to it.......... .......
You notice that your horse is lame in the foot and you believe it might be a abscess. You call the farrier or the vet and they come out and "dig and search" for the abscess, out pops the pus pocket, now pack and wrap the foot and keep it protected and covered until the cut away part of the foot grows back
SCENARIO # 2
You have a blister but cover it to keep it from busting and a couple of days later the blister is gone, and in a few more days the skin peels off to expose the tough new skin. This all happens in about a week.
Your horse is suspected of having a abscess so you decide to soak the foot in the hope that it will pop out sooner. After a few days the abscess does pop out and drain leaving a small hole where the abscess was.
Okay guess which one I believe to be the most logical and humane choice...... ......... ......... ......
If ANYONE tells you that the best way to find a abscess is "dig and search" pay the farm call and get a second opinion.
I trim over 1000 feet a month and I never go looking for abscesses, and in the old days when i did rarely ever were they where I thought they should be and rarely popped out where I thought they would.
I swear by 30 minute apple cider vinegar soaks for suspected abscess, it kills 99% of bacteria, 82% of fungus and 80% of viral infections. I don't have to wrap and bandage the foot because I did not cut it all away! The hole fills in pretty fast and the horse go back to being normal, problem solved!
Don't "dig and search" Its just to easy for ANYONE to be wrong............ ......
