This is very interesting to me and I was wondering if anyone is riding barefoot? If so.... do you need some special specific farrier for this? I've done a little reading on it and it seems that you do but I'm not sure why. And I'm wondering if this is possible in rocky terrain or would I need easy boots? I don't trot thru rocks.

There is a big movement to barefoot here. A lot of the people in our group ride with boots and have their horse barefoot at home. Ace came to me barefoot, but I ride on very rocky and gravelly trails and he was constantly diving for the grassy side of the trail so I put shoes on him. I am going to have his shoes pulled in Nov. and fit him for boots because I think barefoot is healthier. I have read a lot about barefoot horses and my friend has 5 she rides that way, but if the footing is rocky she puts boots on and that works well. My neighbor has 2 quarter horses and she doesn't use boots and they do alright. I use the same farrier I have had for years. He is always updating his knowledge. Clinton Anderson did a show about changing his horses to barefoot. His farrier puts easy boots on as soon as he pulls the shoes so Clinton can keep up his training. I'm still looking for the best way. Is there anyone else on here who rides barefoot? How does it work for you?
