Those of you with geldings should be thinking of cleaning their horses sheaths. I like to do mine spring and fall as a general rule and anytime in between as needed. Since I don't have water in my barn, I save up a number of milk bottles and fill them with warm water and use them to rinse. We were treated to hands on sheath cleaning demonstration by Carol Sun. am. It reminded those of us who knew to get it done before winter and instructed those who didn't know. As always, the message was delivered clearly and concisely and with safety being the main consideration. Thank you Carol.

did she show you how to clean mares also? it's a little more delicate, and some people don't think its a good idea.. but I talked to quite a few vets about it and they all agree that its an important thing to do. I suggest Excalibur or KY Jelly to loosen up the ..stuff.

No, I have never done a mare. There are only geldings in Carol's herd and mine and to tell the truth, I didn't know that they needed to be done. You learn something new all the time with the horses. Thanks for the info Katy.
