The purpose for horse and rider to learn these exercises is to create a way for the horse to understand us when we ask his feet to move. The horse will allow us to direct his movement. The horse learns to respond appropriately to and from pressure. He will learn to follow a feel. The rider and the horse will create muscle memory so that the footfall is effortless and correct, without brace. We will then use these movements to teach our horse under saddle. We will practice a feel on the line that best communicates to the horse. We will have control of our core energy so we are in sync with our horse’s energy and he with ours. When all of this is soft on the ground, we will be assured it will be so under saddle. Everything we do … we will do in such a way as to not upset our horse but still be very clear in our direction and support. This control of his movement or lack of movement is where trust and respect will come from. As we work with our horse on the ground, in our mind, we will always be riding.

Always think about what you want..... not want you don't want.
I promise my horse, I will always reward softness and
never release on a brace.
