Sat. Aug. 25th there will be a work party at the Silver Mine horse camp in Natchaug forest. Start time is 9 am. Anyone who can bring a chain saw will be very helpful. The object is to open the sites for larger horse trailers and clean the area of low brush. Contact Fay Broulliard @ 860-455-2186 so she can get a count for lunch. Drinks will be provided as well.

Well I got to use the camp this weekend. We opened the campsites so people with big rigs can back in and have a place for their horses. Just about everybody has those electric fence corrals or pvc panels. It's a lot different than it was when we used to just picket our horses and they were comfortable with that. It is nice to have an area that is roomy enough for the horses to walk around. I was able to join the NEATO group and hang out around the campfire in the evening. I didn't ride with the group as neither Ace nor I are ready for 3 hr. rides but we went out alone and enjoyed the trails. I'll just have to get in better condition so I can join the group for other rides. The group was very welcoming and made my weekend just delightful.

Hey Jane good for you. Tommy and I rode Saturday afternoon. He rode Winchester and I rode Tuffy, so we just went for a real short walk. We left from Janeens and walked up the road to the gas line and around on the trail right behind the horse camp. We saw everyone setting up there corrals and sitting around them. Everyone I have met in NEATO is very nice. With any luck we will ride in the NEATO Turkey trot. (It was so nice on Saturday I couldn't resist when Tommy asked if I thought I could go for a short ride.) and by the way it did feel GREAT to be able to ride pain free!!!!! even if it was short and slow:).

Hooray for you! I was home packing up to go back. I hadn't planned to go camping, I only drove up to see who was there and they ganged up on me so I had to go back. I thought about riding down to Janeen's house but by the time I got back there it was getting late. I am so glad for you that you are back on the horse. I hope to ride the turkey trot also. They usually mark 2 loops so even if you can't do the whole ride, you can do one loop and participate in the dinner. Fay is going up to NH next weekend. Boy would I love to go with her. That ride is going to be 4hrs. Too long for me. Maybe we could get together one weekend for a short one.

Jane; that would be great. The CHC is having an informal camp out in Natchaug on the 21, 22 and 23 of September. Tommy and I are not camping but we are going to spend the day both Saturday and Sunday at the horsecamp. We are going to ride and have lunch and such (like camping but going home at nite). Janeen will be joining us a some point. If you are free that weekend maybe you can come up we can go out for a short ride or two and have some lunch. You can call me if you want or you can e-mail me.

Oh that would be such fun. I love riding up there and Ace will have his new shoes by then so we will be hot to trot.

Is the CHC the Ct Horse Council? If so they don't have anything on their web site. Would you list it here if it is open to the public?

Hey Jane. it is the CT horse council, the Volunteer horse patrol. They are camping at Lost SilverMine Horsecamp that weekend. It is informal there are no marked trails for the weekend. It is at Natchaug so I would think certainly everyone is welcome. Diane Ciano will be there if anyone is interested in joining the CHC or the VHP. I think they are going to certify horses if anyone wants to ride a different horse or wants to join.

Thanks, I tested for that on Fay's Dakota when she first got involved. He was boomproof. There wasn't anything that you could throw at him that would scare him. I didn't continue because it is just far enough away that it is inconvenient to be there. I will join the CHC because they do a lot to help the horse people in this State. Without them horses would be banned for some stupid reason or other. Ace and I will be joining you at least one day. I will let you know.

Hope to see you at the horse camp this Saturday or Sunday. We will be hanging out and going out for some short rides. I think we are going to bring the grill so we can have hamburgers and hot dogs.

You will see me on Sunday. I am going to see Dennis Reis on Sat. I vacillated on which day I wanted to go and the weather report was the deciding factor. Sun. is going to be 80 and dry. See you there.
