The other day I was feeding my QH Apollo and I normally ask him to back away from the dish until I pour the grain. On this day he had a pile of hay in his dish, so I went into the stall to clean it out. I usually dump the grain from the outside. He came next to me and was pushing with his shoulder so I started flapping my elbows with a lot of energy and he wheeled around ( I saw my life pass before me ) as tho he wanted to kick (one of the reasons he was sent to me) but went out the door instead and calmly walked back into the back of the stall and waited for me to invite him to the dish. I believe that the ground work that I did is the reason that he didn't kick at me and I know it was working when he politely asked to approach. This is interesting because he has been a pasture ornament since last year when he went lame. Other than feed and brush him now and then, I haven't done anything with him for a year but he still remembers.
