A couple weeks ago Brownie and I attended a Healthy Stride Clinic with Jim and Brandon Crew. It was a all day seminar for horses, owners and farriers to learn about the structure of your horse, how it affects them and the methods used to make your horse move correctly and what may be ailing them. The morning session was a lecture about the structure of the horse(skeletal and muscular) and how if you have have problems in the feet it can and will affect the rest of the body. We were given pamphlets with different aspects of the horse and explained what ailments can cause whitch problems. After lunch each horse was evaluated from the ground up. When evaluated I was reassured that my monster (Clydesdale/Percheron) had solid feet, good bone structure and was put together suprisingly well for a draft horse! (Needless to say I was a very proud mommy!) They did inform me to have my farrier pay attention to having her feet level on the ground because she has been not getting as much attention on the inside wall as needed. Aside from that we watched her move and they also evaluated the way that she walked how her weight is distributed. (One thing I did learn is that I need to work on getting her more desensitized. She got very upset when he was making noise with a brush!) Another tidbit that I found very interesting is the way your horses mane falls can be a sign of where a problem lies. I am still just overwhelmed with information and very impressed with what I learned. The website is attached for them, kinda limited in info but if you ever have the chance to attend one of their clinics I strongly suggest to take advantage of it. I know I learned more than I can remember off the top of my head in a few short hours!
